Sayers Family Connection to Mornington Yacht Club

For more than 30 years, Mornington Yacht Club has been part of our family's story, spanning three generations. My parents were Thursday night sailors in the 90s, and Paul and I followed soon after. Paul has sailed all his life, while I was usually the enthusiastic passenger, moving from side to side as instructed! As our family grew, so did our connection.

Ella and Oscar both learnt to sail through Tackers before moving on to Optimists, and later returned as teenagers to complete their boat licenses. The deck became a favourite spot for family lunches, Christmas Eve gatherings and countless celebrations with close friends.

Today, Paul continues to sail on Allure, a beautiful Couta boat, and has been part of the crew for 13 years. He recently won the first race of the season alongside daughter Ella, a lovely reminder that their shared love of sailing continues to bring them together.

From her early days learning to sail at the Club to now racing alongside her dad, it’s a special bond that has come full circle. Ella still joins him on Thursday evenings whenever she can, sharing not just the sailing, but the camaraderie of the Couta boat community.

What makes this connection so special is how it has evolved through every stage of life — from my parents' sailing days to our own Thursday nights, our children learning to sail and now sharing those experiences as adults.

For our family, it's always been about much more than sailing. It's about friendships, community and a place that holds a lifetime of memories.

It's a pleasure for Sayers & Co to support a club that has given our family so much over the years.
